Lynn Hiller

As a 35 year member of the New Trier faculty, Lynn Hiller served as the department coordinator of Special Education, a staff development coordinator, a special education teacher, a co-teacher in Geometry and Chemistry, an adviser and a coach.

During her tenure, Ms. Hiller designed and implemented programs to support and serve all students such as the Guided Assistance Program (GAP) and the Academic Assistance Center (AAC). She was the first 504 Coordinator and worked to design accommodations for students outside of Special Education. Additionally, Ms. Hiller worked to make the articulation process between junior high school and New Trier and the transition between New Trier and post secondary education more connected for greater student success.

After retiring from New Trier High School in 2005, Ms. Hiller has worked privately with students to teach executive functioning and student-led learning strategies. In addition, she works with parents as an educational coach to help families through the process of securing support: writing goals, attending IEP meetings, and helping create transitional plans.

“We all learn differently. By using that knowledge to understand how we construct meaning in our world, we can inform our decisions and empower ourselves to continue to learn more effectively so that our differences are not disabilities.”q
